The Makefile uses `pkg-config` (with `PKG_CONFIG_PATH` pointing to DPDK's uninstalled `.pc` files) to get compiler/linker flags. The binary includes an RPATH pointing to the DPDK lib directory, so no `LD_LIBRARY_PATH` is needed at runtime. Key flags: `-DALLOW_EXPERIMENTAL_API`, `-Wl,--allow-multiple-definition`, `-O2 -g`. + +### Test/benchmark binaries (standalone, no DPDK needed) + +```bash +gcc -O2 -o test/test_ws_protocol test/test_ws_protocol.c -lpthread +gcc -O2 -o test/bench_tcp test/bench_tcp.c -lpthread +``` + +## Architecture + +This is a **DPDK user-space TCP/IP stack** with a **WebSocket client (RFC 6455)** layered on top. It runs entirely in userspace — no kernel TCP. + +### Lcore split + +- **lcore0 (main thread)**: DPDK RX/TX burst from NIC, WS receive polling, application logic (`main.c`) +- **lcore1 (pkt_process)**: Protocol processing loop — TCP state machine, ARP/ICMP, timer maintenance, TX output engine (`tcp_core.c`) + +Data crosses lcores via two `rte_ring` SP/SC queues: `ring->in` (RX → pkt_process) and `ring->out` (pkt_process → TX). + +### Layer stack (bottom-up) + +``` +DPDK rte_eth_rx_burst / rte_eth_tx_burst + → pkt_process dispatch: ARP / ICMP / TCP (ng_tcp_process) + → TCP 11-state FSM (tcp_input.c) + congestion control (tcp_output.c) + timers (tcp_timer.c) + → stream->rcvbuf / stream->sndbuf (rte_ring per-TCB) + → POSIX-like socket API: nsocket / nconnect / nsend / nrecv / nclose (tcp_socket.c) + → WebSocket: ws_connect (HTTP Upgrade) / ws_send_frame / ws_recv_frame (ws_client.c) + → Application (main.c) +``` + +### Critical design details + +- **Blocking I/O via condition variables**: `nconnect()` and `nrecv()` block the app thread using `pthread_cond_wait`. The pkt_process lcore signals `stream->cond` when state changes or data arrives. `nconnect()` additionally services DPDK RX/TX inline while waiting for the handshake to complete. +- **TCB lookup is O(1)**: 256-bucket hash table on the 4-tuple (sip, dip, sport, dport). Additionally, an `fd → TCB` direct array (`fd_to_tcb[]`) provides O(1) lookup from socket fd. +- **Client→Server frames are MASKED**, Server→Client frames are unmasked (RFC 6455). Masking key is 4 random bytes XORed over the payload. +- **TCP send path**: `nsend()` segments into MSS-sized `ng_tcp_fragment` structs, enqueues to stream->sndbuf ring. `ng_tcp_out()` (called from pkt_process) dequeues them, builds Ethernet/IP/TCP headers (with option bytes from `fragment->option[]`), resolves MAC via ARP table, sends to ring->out. +- **TCP receive path**: `ng_tcp_input()` validates sequence numbers against the receive window, handles in-order data by enqueueing to `stream->rcvbuf` and waking `nrecv()`. Out-of-order segments go to `ofo_head` sorted linked list (max 64 entries), drained when the gap fills. +- **TCP timers** checked per-iteration in pkt_process: RTO with exponential backoff, delayed ACK (200ms), keepalive (2h idle), zero-window probe (1s interval, max 10). +- **Congestion control**: RFC 5681 slow start / congestion avoidance / fast retransmit (3 dupacks) / fast recovery. cwnd initialized to 2 MSS (~2920 bytes). +- **ARP**: Linked-list ARP table in `arp.h`. ARP requests rate-limited to 10/s per destination. Missing MAC causes the fragment to be re-enqueued to sndbuf. +- **Globals**: `gDpdkPortId`, `gLocalIp` (default `192.168.0.115`), `gSrcMac`. Singletons: `tcpInstance()`, `ringInstance()`. + +### Key source files + +| File | Purpose | +|------|---------| +| `src/main.c` | Entry point, EAL init, cmdline parsing, main loop (RX/TX + WS poll + ping) | +| `src/tcp_core.h` | All structs (TCB, fragment, hash table), constants, function declarations | +| `src/tcp_core.c` | Hash table, packet encoding, ARP/ICMP helpers, pkt_process loop, port init, `ng_tcp_out` | +| `src/tcp_input.c` | TCP option parsing, sequence validation, 11-state FSM, out-of-order queue | +| `src/tcp_output.c` | Congestion control (slow start/CA/fast retx/recovery), option building | +| `src/tcp_timer.c` | RTT estimation (RFC 6298), RTO with backoff, delayed ACK, keepalive, ZWP | +| `src/tcp_socket.c` | POSIX-like socket API with condition-variable blocking | +| `src/ws_client.c` | WebSocket handshake, frame encode/decode (masked send, unmasked recv), ping/pong | +| `src/ws_client.h` | WebSocket opcodes, API declarations | +| `src/arp.h` | ARP table (linked list), LL_ADD/LL_REMOVE macros | + +## Tests + +- **`test/test_ws_protocol.c`** — WebSocket protocol test using kernel TCP sockets. Bug 修复 + +### Bug #1: TCB 4元组 Hash 查找单向匹配 + +**文件**: `src/tcp_core.c:ng_tcp_stream_search()` + +**现象**: TCP SYN-ACK 回包无法匹配到已建立的 TCB。tcpdump 显示 ARP 和 SYN 正常出门,SYN-ACK 正常回来,但 DPDK 协议栈不处理。 + +**根因**: 入站包 4元组方向与 TCB 存储方向相反: + +``` +入站包: (server_ip, local_ip, server_port, client_port) +TCB: (local_ip, server_ip, client_port, server_port) +``` + +原 hash 函数 `sip ^ dip ^ ((sport<<16)|dport)` 在两个方向上产生不同的 hash 值,且查找只做正向匹配。 + +**修复**: 双向搜索 — 计算 `h_fwd` 和 `h_rev` 两个 bucket,每个 bucket 内做双向匹配。 + +```c +/* 同时搜索 forward 和 reverse bucket */ +uint32_t h_fwd = tcp_hash4(sip, dip, sport, dport); +uint32_t h_rev = tcp_hash4(dip, sip, dport, sport); +// 在两个 bucket 都尝试正向和反向匹配 +if ((s->sip == sip && s->dip == dip && s->sport == sport && s->dport == dport) || + (s->sip == dip && s->dip == sip && s->sport == dport && s->dport == sport)) + return s; +``` + +### Bug #2: nrecv() 死锁 — WS 握手阶段 RX/TX 停止服务 + +**文件**: `src/tcp_socket.c:nrecv()` + +**现象**: TCP 握手成功,HTTP upgrade 请求已发出,但 `nrecv()` 永久阻塞,HTTP 101 响应永远收不到。 + +**根因**: WS 握手阶段主循环尚未启动,`ws_connect()` → `nsend()` → `nrecv()` 调用链中,`nrecv()` 只做一次 RX/TX 服务就调用 `pthread_cond_wait` 永久阻塞。此时 `nsend` 的数据还在 `sndbuf` 中等待 `pkt_process` 处理,`pkt_process` 处理完后放到 `ring->out`,但没人执行 TX burst 把数据发出去——**死锁**。 + +**修复**: 将 `pthread_cond_wait` 改为 `pthread_cond_timedwait` (10ms 超时),每次超时后服务 RX/TX。 + +```c +while (rte_ring_count(s->rcvbuf) == 0 && s->wakeup == 0) { + // 10ms timed wait + pthread_cond_timedwait(&s->cond, &s->mutex, &short_wait); + // 服务 RX/TX,让数据流动 + rte_eth_tx_burst(...); rte_eth_rx_burst(...); +} +``` + +### Bug #3: TCP 窗口溢出为 0 + +**文件**: `src/tcp_core.h` + +**现象**: tcpdump 显示 DPDK 发出的 SYN 和 HTTP 请求 `win 0`。内核对端无法发送任何数据,HTTP 101 响应永远发不出来。服务端日志显示 `[CONNECT]` 和周期性 PUSH,但数据实际未到达客户端。 + +**根因**: + +```c +#define TCP_RECVBUF_SIZE (64 * 1024) // = 65536 +``` + +接收缓冲区大小 65536 超出 `uint16_t` 范围(最大 65535)。在设置 TCP window 字段时: + +```c +syn->windows = (uint16_t)s->rcv_buf_avail; // (uint16_t)65536 = 0 +``` + +强制类型转换导致溢出为 0。 + +**修复**: + +```c +#define TCP_RECVBUF_SIZE (64 * 1024 - 1) // 65535, fits in uint16_t +``` + +### Bug #4: 源端口随机化失败 + +**文件**: `src/tcp_socket.c:nconnect()` + +**现象**: 每次运行使用相同的源端口 (50535),内核残留的 TCP 连接状态干扰新连接。 + +**根因**: `rand()` 从未 `srand()` 初始化,默认种子固定。 + +**修复**: 每次连接前用 `time(NULL) ^ (uintptr_t)s` 作为种子。 + +### Bug #5: HTTP 响应读取可能消耗 WebSocket 帧数据 + +**文件**: `src/ws_client.c` + +**现象**: 快速消息场景下帧解析错位,TEXT 帧被误读为 CLOSE/PONG。 + +**根因**: `ws_connect()` 用 `nrecv` 循环读 HTTP 响应直到 `\r\n\r\n`,如果服务器在同一 TCP segment 中发送了 HTTP 响应之后的 WebSocket 帧数据,这些额外字节会被读走并丢弃。 + +**修复**: 添加全局 `g_ws_leftover[]` 缓冲区 + `ws_read()` 辅助函数,保存 HTTP 响应后的多余字节供后续帧解析使用。每次 `ws_connect()` 开始时清空残留。 + +--- + +## 4. 性能测试 + +### 4.1 微基准 (CPU-only, `test/bench_tcp`) + +| 测试项 | 性能 | +|--------|------| +| Hash Table Lookup (256桶, 1000条目) | **1.9
